                            SOUTHSIDE   BAPTIST CHURCH
                          FAMILY FUN DAY SUPER SUNDAY
                             FLAG FOOTBALL RULES 2012

1.  Each team is made up of various number of players, as assigned by he SSBC Childrens Committee.  Teams will play 7 players at a time.  If both team captains agree, teams may play eight players at a time.  At least two players on the field for each team must be children (age 13 or less) or female or both, for every play.  All players are eligible receivers.

2. Each game is made up of two 20 minute halfs with a 2 minute half time.

3. Possession will be decided by coin flip.

4. Kickoffs may be thrown or punted from the ten yard line.  If a kickoff hits the ground before being touched by the receiving team,it may be taken at the site that the ball first struck the ground, or it may be picked up and advanced by the receiving team.  There are no onsides kicks.  If a kickoff goes out of bounds, the receiving team may take the ball where it goes out of bounds, or at the 10 yard line, whichever is to their advantage.  If a kickoff goes out of the endzone, the receiving team will take the ball at the 10 yard line.  If a kickoff is touched by a receiving team and fumbled, the ball is down where it touches the ground, unless it touches first in the endzone, then the ball wiull be placed at the 10 yard line.

5. The field will be 40 yds long by 30 yds wide.

6. Each team may get up to 2 first downs per possession.  First downs are earned by 2 forward passes completed beyond the line of scrimmage on downs 1-4, or by one completion to a child or female on downs 3 or 4.

7. There will be a full 5 second, out loud count, before a rush.  The defense may not cross the line of scrimmage before the count is completed.

8. The offense may run the ball if the defense rush across the line of scrimmage.  The defense counting out loud does not constitute a rush.   The offense may not obtain a first down by running, but touchdowns can be scored on running plays.

9. On 4th down, if the offense wishes to punt, they must announce this to the defense.  The punter must punt behind the line of scrimmage.  There is no rush.  No offensive players may leave the line of scrimmage until the ball is punted.  For a punt, the ball must be kicked.  If the ball strikes the ground after it is punted, for any reason, it is down where it first strikes the ground.

10. A fumble on any play is a dead ball where it first strikes the ground.  A fumble caught in the air by either the offense or defense, without striking the ground, is a live balll, and may be advanced.   A fumble striking the ground first in the defenses' end zone is a safety.

11. Players must wear flags on every play.  Flags are to be worn as designed, with flags on the sides of the hips.  Shirts must be tucked into shorts/pants, and cannot in any way cover the flags or interfere with the other team reaching the flags.  A player with possesion of the ball may not flag guard, slap defense hands away from flags,   Stiff arm, or spin in order to keep the defense from grabbing flags.  The ball will be down at the site of the infraction if these occur.

12. Any player intentionally tying flags, moving flags on the belt to one location, or tying the belt to gain an unfair advantage will be dismissed from the game.  If a touchdown is scored by a player with flags unfairly attached, the score will be negated and a five yard penalty and loss of down will be enforced.  After all scores, the scoring player must present himself to a member of the other team for flag removal as a check to determine that flags were not unfairly attached.

13. A touchdown scores 6 points.  Extra points may be tried from the 5 yard line for one point or 10 yard line for 2 points.  There are no field goals.  A safety is 2 points, and the scoring team will receive the ball via kickoff.

14. Penalities include but are not limited to:
block in back--ball is dead where it is at time of the penalty and a five                                                                    yard penalty from that site will be accessed and loss of down if this occurs on an offensive play
offsides--five yard penalty and repeat down
defensive pass interference--ball is advance to the site of the interference
Offensive pass interference--five yard penalty and repeat down
Foul language--the perpetrator will leave the field for the remainder of the game

Penalties are to be applied with grace or ignored when committed by younger children, especially if there was no direct impact on the outcome of the play.

15.  Blocking is screen type blocking only.  Aggressive impact is to be avoided.

16.  The ball may be centered through the legs or pitched sideways back to the quarterback.

17.  For any circumstance or situation which occurs that is not covered by the above rules, the team captains will use football tradition and the attitudes of fun, sportsmanship, and the "golden rule" to determine how the situation is to be handled.  In ongoing controversies, the decision of the SSBC Children's team is final.
