Encouragers Needed
The current sermon series “Southside Flashback” is a compilation of sermons from years gone by that after preaching them many copies were requested. These sermons go back to being requested on cassette tape which I am sure many of you have never even used. Some of the more aged ones are very decision driven preaching and therefore usually bring about a response at the end of the message as the Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to draw people to a decision. You have seen this in the services lately. When I first preached them years ago I was mainly concerned about having people make the decision that God wanted them to make. As I have matured in the faith, God has shown me that the point of decision is just the beginning of the commitment. It is imperative that we follow through with that commitment or else it just becomes another emotional choice that impacts our life for only a short time. I believe it is the responsibility of the church to give everyone who feels the Spirit of God moving them toward some new area of commitment the best chance of success in that commitment.
Therefore, I am asking you to prayerfully consider helping out in this area. I am overwhelmed right now with phone calls, emails, and end of service decisions. Currently I meet weekly with several men on a one on one basis to help them in their walk with Christ. There is a need for others of you to do the same. I need men and women who are willing to encourage someone else in their Christian faith on a weekly basis by meeting together with that purpose in mind. You do not have to be a “Spiritual giant” to do this. You just need to be following Jesus daily, learning that His mercies are new every day. No seminary degree is necessary, just a desire to help others grow in Jesus. We can help you get started if you feel you don’t know what to do. We have a Discipleship Map that is easy to follow and has up to three years worth of direction if you need it. However, it is our desire that after some time of following the map, you will begin to find your own way around the world of Spiritual growth.
Please pray about this—really it is not something to pray about whether you should, but pray about how soon you should start. It will help you as much as it will help those with whom you meet.
Blessings,
Jeff R.
